A Winter Gala with Wintour
Machiavelli famously thought that it is wiser to be feared than loved. We do not know if she keeps a copy of The Prince in her oversized Gucci bag, but legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour certainly seems like she reads Machiavelli the way most women do The Secret. Able to bring the most acclaimed of fashion designers to knee, knocking terror with a mere disdainful glare, Wintour is the arbiter of high fashion in America. Despite her fearsome reputation and steely, austere demeanor, this iconoclastic personality has a softer side, working tirelessly for many years to help secure rights and equality for the LGBT community. So, a little love may finally be in order.
The Human Rights Campaign will be honoring Ms. Wintour with its Ally for Equality Award at its annual Greater New York Gala on February 4, 2012 at the Waldorf Astoria. This award is given to allies of the LGBT community who stand up and fight to achieve equality for all Americans. Presenting the award will be Glee creator Ryan Murphy, himself a workhorse for LGBT rights. So, is it better to be feared than loved? For Anna Wintour, it’s best to be both.
