An East Village Aphrodisiac
Prada, Jil Sander, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, and Gucci are names that make Madison Avenue our own personal polytheistic heaven. We’ve never had a problem choosing between the gods of fashion because we usually make platinum offerings to all of them. While strolling through the East Village last night, we were flummoxed by a slightly less familiar set of names: Duxbury, Rome Point, Mecox Bay, Hog Island, Kumamoto, and Totten Virginicus.
The setting was Goat Town, the new gastro-pub by Joel Hough and Nicholas Morgenstern of Cookshop fame. The tongue twisters, on the other hand, referred to the duo’s names for oysters on the half-shell. The mighty mollusks can be ordered as a petite or grande tower and are served as an appetizing starter to the rest of the fantastic, market-fresh menu.
We suggest ordering the grande tower. As our handsome waiter kindly reminded us, oysters are an aphrodisiac!
