Divas in the Kitchen
In a city where the Arts are at our fingertips, we love the glamour of heading to the opera. Renee Fleming, Anna Netrebko…nothing beats a diva on stage! While the masses may mistake opera for an antiquated snooze-fest, those in the know say otherwise. It’s an evolving art form, rich in creativity and emotion, and in the case of the upcoming Off-Broadway production of “One Hot Kitchen” it can be sexy, modern and a little bit gritty.
“One Hot Kitchen,” based on the play by David Caudle and presented by Metropolis Opera Project, exemplifies Opera Electronica (think club beats meets opera). The story is unmistakably New York: a couple fresh from the Midwest, two gay men suddenly free to make it legal, mismatched roommates, a booty call gone bizarrely awry, and a tragic hypochondriac. With music by Kristin Hevner Wyatt & Daniel Wyatt, direction by Norm Johnson, music direction by Chris Wilson and artistic direction by Broadway’s Zach James, this intimate production promises to have a bold voice!
