Getting Bloody with Jordan Eagles

Every now and then we venture to Brooklyn to enjoy a bit of local culture and dining.  Most recently it was dinner with friends at Peter Luger, one of our favorite steakhouses. That evening we’re were urged by one of our dinner companions to take our steak “blood rare” which we found translated to a very bloody plate indeed.  While we might not have the stomach for a bit of gore, even on a lovely place setting, we can’t say the same about artist Jordan Eagles .  It seems he has far less of a reaction to animal blood and, in fact, is inspired by it.

Eagles, a truly prolific artist, has been working with the medium of animal blood for quite some time, and in his upcoming show HEMOGLYPHS, he will take his work to another outstanding level.  Through his unique process, he suspends, encases, and permanently preserves animal blood, salvaged from slaughterhouses, in acrylic plexiglass and UV resin. When spot lit, the works become more translucent, cast shadows, and project an intense glow onto the wall behind them.

The show will feature a massive, 32 ft. long, abstract mural in blood and resin; a 16 ft. tall work of blood-soaked gauze preserved on plexiglass; and a series created with outdoor sun-drying techniques of the blood.

Now, who’s in the mood for a Bloody Mary!
