Girl, What is That on Your Foot?

For centuries, footwear has been a symbol of social status and artistic expression.  From red heels in the 17th-Century aristocracy to the loft “huapen di” platforms of China’s Qing Dynasty, shoes have taken on a role much greater than a primitive covering to protect one’s feet.  Today, particularly in women’s fashion, footwear is a statement, but no one is shouting with creativity greater than Kobi Levi.

The Tel Aviv-based designer is quickly making a name for himself abroad with his clever designs for women’s shoes that take a tongue-in-cheek approach to fashion.  Levi’s work could be best described as wearable sculpture even more so than wearable art.  Ranging from pumps shaped like the beak of a toucan to heels shaped like playground slides to stilettos shaped like slingshots (pictured here), this designer aims to put the playful back in fashion and we are certain that once his designs his mass production, he’ll take the world by storm…one foot at a time.
