Let Them Eat Flour

It’s a well known myth that Marie Antoinette never uttered the famous words “Let them eat cake,” but if she had expressed something so delicious it would surely have sounded more like, “Let them eat Flour!” The Flour to which the naughty minx would be referring would not be the milled variety, however, but the Flour bakery and café flagshipped in Boston’s South End, of course.

Owner Joanne Chang now has three tempting cafes under her belt, and she recently won the prestigious 2011 Best of Boston award in the Bakery and Sweets category. A former management consultant, she left her job to pursue her passion for “sharing the pure pleasure that mouth-watering pastries and foods and warm hospitality can bring into your life.”  With sweet and savoury delights, Flour services morning commuters, lunch time locals, afternoon sugar rushers and post-dinner dessert seekers.  The staff are famed for their expertise in baking as well as in their exceptional customer service. If only they’d been around to provide Marie with both Macaroons and a lesson in manners, oh how things might have turned out differently for her!
