Let Them Eat Ladurée!
New Yorkers are fickle about virtually everything…designers, lovers and especially food; convince them that something is chic and they will eat it. First it was cupcakes…but as with most things popular in SoHo, that trend has quickly been discarded by the stylish, left to be fed upon by the B&T crowd, always a year behind. We’ve returned to our longtime favorite temptation, macaroons, with the recent opening of Ladurée’s first NYC boutique.
Ladurée, the Monarch of Macaroons, opened in Paris 150 years ago, and has remained a fixture among Parisian tea salon culture ever since. Though the boutique baker is best known for its perfectly crafted macaroons or macarons as its staff would correct you, Ladurée also offers an incredible assortment of other delicious treats that are almost too beautiful to eat.
Unlike the cupcake craze, these macaroons genuinely deserve applaud. Anyone can make a cupcake, but the macaroon is complicated craft. It is nearly impossible to make a perfect macaron, unless of course you are a baker at Ladurée.
