My Pants Are Turning Japanese…I Really Think So!

Japan is famous for many things—drunken business men, Godzilla and bashful geishas, to name a few—but it has also been associated with clever design.  Japanese clothing brands like Uniqlo and Muji have successfully transitioned to the US market, offering quality fashion from the Land of Rising Sun, but we have not seen a true hybrid of Japanese and American design in fashion until now with Betabrand’s clever, new “Japants.”

Betabrand, the brilliant and esoteric San Francisco-based online clothing company known for smart, witty designs, recently collaborated with Japanese clothing designer Tomo Saito on their new product Japants, which celebrate function and sophistication. The details of the design stand out in ways that pop without overwhelming the senses:  reinforced knees, waistband extensions, and a button-down center belt loop are just a few of the details that culminate in a look that’s straight out of Tokyo, but infused with a laid-back, San Francisco vibe.

The end result?  A chic, utilitarian pant for the discerning gentleman who cringes at the cargo.
