Raising The Standard
It’s easy to fall in love with hotelier Andre Balazs’ properties when they have such irresistible charms. Think The Mercer for sophistication, Chateau Marmont for glamour and The Standard Hotel for sauciness. In the latter’s existing NYC location, guests are practically encouraged to showcase their sexual exhibitionist natures in front of their room’s huge non-reflective glass windows (we love that it’s located in, um, the Meatpacking District.)
Just when we thought things couldn’t get better, Daddy Balazs has announced an addition to the family…The Standard East Village. That’s right kids, Balazs has adopted the problematic Cooper Square Hotel and is currently rebranding the dramatic twenty-one story tower of gleaming glass gloriousness to fit snugly in The Standard’s family portrait. Because Daddy B believes in keeping family close, Hotel guests are encouraged to bicycle between the East and West sibling properties gratis on Standard bikes.
Be warned: if you love The Standard Meatpacking, you’re going to want to have an affair with its younger sister.
