The Art of the Modern Warrior

Many artists showcase their feather strokes and wimp aesthetics with a blasé wrist that puts us to sleep. Provincial scenes or portraits of puppies? They have no place with us. What gets our blood pumping is the visceral work of courageous artists who continue to push the boundaries of what it means to be a man. New York is home to some of these pioneers, who force our perspective from sedentary to super hero. Such is the work of Mitchel Coffman.

Focusing on the physical ideal, Coffman harnesses raw masculinity on large canvas. Using bold color choices and broad, dry strokes Coffman’s work is passionate and primal. His pieces feature body builders, whose power and prowess is the main subject. Join us as we celebrate the work of Mitchel Coffman’s at the Lumen Gallery. Mitchel also works closely with GLADD and the Wounded Warrior Project; and proceeds from his show at Lumen will benefit Arts & Mind, a non-profit committed to improving the lives of people living with Alzheimer’s.
