The Summit of Style
Men’s accessories are plagued by extremes, often insipidly traditional or nauseatingly flamboyant. For those of us who are neither looking to emulate our grandfather or be mistaken for a member of La Cage’s touring company, there seem to be remarkably few options. In fact, it took our recent trip to South Africa of all places to find a design label that satiated our hunger for innovative but tasteful men’s accessories.
The Summit, brainchild of South African native Cindy Poole, is a new brand for the modern man. The name is derived from the Rat Pack’s own self-referential label in the 1950s, and the designs themselves take cues from the period. Poole refers to the brand as “futuristic nostalgic” and the meaning is best seen in piece like the handcrafted sheepskin leather bowties, that update a traditional or even antiquated item using unexpected materials and techniques.
