Victoria Schweizer: Coloring Outside the Lines
Victoria Schweizer works as a weather derivatives stockbroker. But, to find out who she is, regard her pop art celebrity portraiture. Simple strokes are worked in shocking color, a technique developed as a five-year-old to distract people from noticing she didn’t color within the lines. This diverse approach shaped her life, as has adversity.
The emulsification of law student, emergency medical technician, movie production assistant, stand up comedian, improvisational actor on a nationally syndicated show, PR firm owner, internet entrepreneur, guitar-playing band member, who spent four days paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident, and lost many friends including the man she was dating in 9/11, manifests in her oeuvres as an absorbing presentation of haunting and hope.
Young Michael Jackson, orange and yellow sunrays of promise haloing out from his blue afro, looks out with a deep sadness in his purple eyes. Five autographed, smaller portraits of Charlie Sheen recall his handsome charm while suggesting his future degeneration. Brad Pitt in rose on violet background mesmerizes you with indigo eyes as would the man himself, surely.
