Wallpaper or Death?

On his deathbed, Oscar Wilde is claimed to have quipped, “My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. One or the other of us has to go.” Regrettably, Oscar Wilde lost that standoff, but his message speaks to something all gay men know at heart: decor is life or death. Besides oxygen and brunch, stylish design is all we need to navigate through the many vicissitudes of life. (We hope for Oscar’s sake they allowed window treatments at Reading Gaol.) For gays, style is substance. And few know this better than design factotum Peter Varcarcel, a decorator with the skill to transform any space, commercial or residential, into a locus of taste and beauty.

After 15 years of experience as a style consultant, decorator and blogger, Valcarcel is now adding “retailer” to his ever-expanding C.V. On October 6th, Peter will celebrate the opening of his Home Accessories POP-UP Shop at KrisTEES in Astoria with a launch party. Enjoy cocktails and sweets provided by the renowned Astor Bake Shop. Best of all, Peter will be on hand, alongside Interior Designer Douglas Clark, to answer any pressing design questions you may have.

We can’t help but wonder if he sells one of those Dorian Gray portraits…
