Would You Prefer Paper or Plastic…on Your Feet?

In times of economic hardship, every frivolous purchase we make brings with it a slight feeling of guilt.  However, entrepreneur Steven Weinreb encourages us to keep shopping while helping those in need; he has devised the perfect solution to keep us stylish and socially conscious with his inspiring shoe company Civic Duty.

No stranger to the world of footwear, Weinreb worked in the industry for over fifteen years before finding himself out of a job at the peak of the economic crisis—at which time he set out to start Civic Duty.  Each year, the company donates 100% of the profits of a specially themed shoe to an important cause such as Common Ground Relief. Weinreb’s colorful shoes (lavender, lemon yellow and electric blue to name a few) are not only incredible comfortable, but also eco-friendly and made from Tyvek (the paper/plastic material commonly used in construction and mailing supplies).  Weinreb explains that the material is ideal because it’s sustainable, light weight, water resistant, breathable and practically indestructible.

If shoes aren’t your thing, Civic Duty has already started creating samples for backpacks, messenger bags, laptop sleeves, and ipad covers. So next time you get the urge to splurge or simply add a little color to your shoe rack, do it for a good cause with Civic Duty!
